ART-WORKS REFLECTING A VERY RARE SYNAESTHETIC EXPERIENCE

___________________________________________________________________________

Prasanta, an introvert, somewhat preoccupied young artist is unassuming in appearance. His gesture was humble but confident. His eyes sparkled through the lens when he spoke passionately about his experiences, related to the present creative process.

At the first glance his art-works appears to be simple and direct representational  photographs with minimal alteration and manipulation of the original image. When I went on looking at the images attested with the contextual texts, I found that the artist infused a special meaning befitting to his interpretation and we might judge the same as creative images. Here the semantic horizon embraced the structure of experiences  and provoked the viewers to feel the other world.

The subjectivity of such art-form is neither reducible to that of the artist nor to that of the viewers .The artist has very humbly denounced the conservative idea of medium specificity and shows a transgression of the boundaries of traditional art genres .His art stands in opposition  to the ‘feel-good treatise of ‘corporate-art’. He has honestly put forward his holistic experience of the visual and other synaesthetic sensory stimuli. The experience of these visual images unequivocally was paired with some olfactory hallucinatory sensation of smell. Subconsciously he could link his senses together in a very rare idiosyncratic   manner .Though rare the unusual responses to hear colours, feel sounds taste shapes have been recorded by many past renowned artists. However the experience of an admixture of scent and foul odour eliciting the emotionally charged past memories of death and cremation reflects a very rare but plausible   synaesthetic   experience. The viewer may not share the synaeshetic experience but the   present show will surely convey an somewhat eerie sensation aroused by the emotionally  attached memories of deceased ancestors  and their associates .Though it is not possible to truly experience what Prasanta felt, the pictures leave us with a lingering pensive sense and there lies its beauty.
